Две от изложбите, които бяха в центъра на медийното пространство, са серията STADT/BILD, съвместна изложба на 4 галерии в Берлин: Berlinische Galerie, Deutsche Bank Kunsthalle, KW Institute for Contemporary Art и Neue Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
To highlight some of those I had the chance to visit two of the exhibitions under the name STADT/BILD that is a collaborative project of 4 galleries in Berlin: Berlinische Galerie, Deutsche Bank KunstHalle, KW Institute for Contemporary Art and Neue Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
Ahmet Ögüt
Невъзможно бе да пропуснеш хепънинга “One ordinary happening” от Ahmet Ögüt като репродукция на оригиналния хепънинг на Allan Kaprow, известен също като “бащата на хепънингите”, “Fluids” от 1967 г. Kaprow изгражда правоъгълни стаи от ледени блокове в продължение на три дни в Лос Анджелис, Ögüt използва бутилки с вода, построени във формата на правоъгълни стаи пред различни галерии из града, които бяха раздавани на любителите на изкуството.
Impossible to miss was the happening “One ordinary happening” from Ahmet Ögüt as an homage to the original happening of Allan Kaprow, also known as the “father of happenings”, “Fluids” from 1967. Kaprow has build right angled rooms from ice blocks in the course of three days in Los Angeles, Ögüt had bottles of water built as right angled rooms in front of galleries around the city. The bottles were later distributed for free to the art lovers.
Paul McCarthy
Много внимание получи и изложбата на Paul McCarthy (да не се бърка с Paul McCartney) в Schinkell Pavillon. И двете негови творби “That Girl T.G. Awake” 2012-2013 и “Horizontal” 2012 създават усещането за гледане на пърформънс, а не на видео инсталация или “скулптура”. “Horizontal” разполага с репродукция в реален размер на голия McCarthy, лежащ хоризонтално на маса по средата на помещението. Целият втори етаж на Schinkell Pavillon бе запазен за това произведение, което само засилва мощното присъствие на тялото на артиста. За мен беше трудно да се вглеждам директно в произведението, което направи цялото преживяване леко неудобно, но много вълнуващо.
A very talked about exhibition was the Paul McCarthy (not to be mistaken with Paul McCartney), to see in Schinkel Pavillon. Both works exhibited “That Girl T.G. Awake” 2012-2013 and “Horizontal” 2012 create the feeling of looking at a performance piece rather than a video installation or sculpture. “Horizontal” features a life size reproduction of the naked McCarthy lying horizontally on a table. The whole second floor of Schinkel Pavillon is dedicated to this one piece, which only enhances it’s powerful presence. At a certain level it makes it difficult to look directly at the lying artists’ body. It is an uncomfortable, yet very intriguing experience.
След този воайорски момент се отправих към две основни събития за Berlin Art Week, abc art berlin contemporary и POSITIONS art fair.
So after this voyeuristic moment, I headed to the two main events of the Berlin Art Week, the abc art berlin contemporary and POSITIONS art fairs.
abc
abc е изложбена платформа за галерии, представящи модерно и съвременно изкуство, която е основана през 2008 г. Оттогава всеки септември Берлин е един все още малко известен рай за всички любители и професионалисти в изкуството.
abc се фокусира върху съвременното изкуство от утвърдени имена и новоизгряващи артисти с около 100 галерии от 17 държави.
abc е вече утвърдена дестинация за колекционери и галеристи и това не остави нито едно свободно пространство в изложбените зали. В комбинация с големия брой посетители тази година в някои моменти беше трудно да се съсредоточа върху изложените работи. Но казвайки това също трябва да подчертая, че имаше невероятни артисти на показ от някои от най-големите галерии в Германия и Европа. Невъзможно беше да не се намери изкуство, подходящо за всеки специфичен личен вкус.
Избраното за тази година пространство беше ARENA Берлин, коeто е някогашно пощенско депо в централната част на Берлин.

abc е вече утвърдена дестинация за колекционери и галеристи и това не остави нито едно свободно пространство в изложбените зали. В комбинация с големия брой посетители тази година в някои моменти беше трудно да се съсредоточа върху изложените работи. Но казвайки това също трябва да подчертая, че имаше невероятни артисти на показ от някои от най-големите галерии в Германия и Европа. Невъзможно беше да не се намери изкуство, подходящо за всеки специфичен личен вкус.
Избраното за тази година пространство беше ARENA Берлин, коeто е някогашно пощенско депо в централната част на Берлин.
За да подчертая някои от изложените галерии и артисти, реших да направя кратка селекция.
abc is an contemporary art fair that was founded in 2008. Since then every September Berlin turns into a small heaven for all art lovers.
The art fair focuses on contemporary art, from established names to emerging newcomers, with around 100 galleries from 17 countries.
The fair is already an established reference for collectors and gallerists and there was not a single space in the exhibition halls that was not occupied by art. Combined with the large amount of visitors sometimes I did find it hard to focus on the art. But that said, I should underline that there were some incredible artists at display from some of the biggest galleries in Germany and Europe. It is impossible to not find art suitable for every specific personal taste.
The space chosen for this year’s presentation was Station Berlin that is a formal postal depot in a central area of Berlin.

Karl Holmqvist
Galerie Neu представи няколко артисти в различни пространства. Karl Holmqvist, идващ от Швеция, беше моят личен фаворит с минималистично изкуството под формата на живопис, скулптура и поезия. Holmqvist сам казва, че работата му е “изследване на тема език и градско строителство” в интервю за Berlin Art Link.
Galerie Neu presented several artists in different corners of the hall. Karl Holmqvist, coming from Sweden, was my personal favorite with his minimal art in form of paintings, sculpture and poetry. Holmqvist himself says that his work “explore[s] the theme of language and urban construction” in an interview for Berlin Art Link.

Jorinde Voigt
König Galerie представи работа на Jorinde Voigt, идваща от Германия. Нейни картини съчетават традиционни материали и колаж. Лесно е да се види, че картините й са направени с невероятна прецизност. Тя следва алгоритми или последователността на Фибоначи, за да реши посоката на линиите в нейните картини. König Galerie was exhibiting work from Jorinde Voigt who is German artist. Her paintings combine traditional materials with collage. It is easy to see that her paintings are done with incredible precision. She follows algorithms or applies the Fibonacci sequence to decide on directions of the lines. When looking up close, one can spot that the part painted in black is a series of feathers aliened perfectly in order to cover the canvas completely.
Kate Cooper
Neumeister Bar-Am представи Kate Cooper с компютърно генерирана жена сякаш излязла от видео игра, която представлява “лъскавата естетика от потребителския капитализъм”, както се изразява Jeppe Ugelvig от списание DIS.
Първата институционална изложба на Cooper беше в KW Институт за съвременно изкуство в Берлин, след като тя печели наградата на Stiftung Schering през 2014 г. Neumeister Bar-Am presented Kate Cooper with a video-game-like computer generated female that represents the “glossy aesthetic from consumer capitalism” as said by Jeppe Ugelvig for DIS magazine.

Again for DIS magazine the artist explains in more details her work, saying that she relates it to a term she calls “hypercapitalism” and feminism. Cooper tries to express the relationship between women’s image, desire and also violence with a non-critical, but rather negotiable approach, suggesting that a balance should be found.

POSITIONS
POSITIONS също се провежда по време на Berlin Art Week и се фокусира върху представянето на изкуство, което от една страна е много съвременно и от друга показва интерес към установените галерии и артисти. Те се стремят да развиват качеството и същността на международната арт сцена и да провокират посетителите си да открият нови позиции.
След бърз разговор с Heinrich Carstens, арт-директор на POSITIONS, той сподели с нас: “Като официален развиващ се партньор на Berlin Art Week ние виждаме Берлин като прозорец към международната арт сцена с много колекционери и куратори, които посещават града. Това е най-доброто средство, с което нашите изложители да изградят контакт с тези професионалисти и да разширят своята мрежа.” Говорейки за преекспонирането на изкуството по време на тази седмица и потенциалната вреда от това, Carstens казва: “Изкуството е комуникация и всяко събитие за изкуства, където специалисти могат да се срещнат, говорят и правят планове, е от полза за професионалистите от целия свят, включително и артистите. Това особено важи за Берлин като разрастващ се пазар за съвременно изкуство.”
С артисти, идващи от 37 страни, изложението беше в ARENA Берлин, където естествената светлина и просторът на мястото позволиха изживяването да е като разходка из музей.
Измежду дългия списък от галерии и художници аз избрах три.
POSITIONS, an art fair also taking place during the Berlin Art Week, focuses on presenting art that is in one hand very current and contemporary and on the other showing interest of the established galleries and artists. They strive to develop the quality and actuality of the international art scene and invite visitors to discover new positions.
After a quick chat with Heinrich Carstens, Artistic Director at POSITIONS, he shared with us that “[…] As official and growing partner of the Berlin Art Week we see Berlin as a window to the international art world with many collectors and curators visiting the city. This is the perfect scope for our exhibitors to meet these professionals and expand their network.” Talking about the overexposure to art during this week and the potential harm of it Carstens responded: “Art is communication and every event for the arts where professionals can meet, talk and plan is a benefit for art world players including the artists. Especially for Berlin as an increasable marketplace for contemporary art.”
With artists coming from 37 countries exhibited in the beautiful, spacious and naturally lit location of ARENA Berlin, there was enough room for a museum-like experience.
In between the long list of galleries and artists I selected three.
Anke Eilergerhard
Art Felicia, галерия в Лихтенщайн, представи сред други артисти работата на германския художник Anke Eilergerhard. Нейната работа “The never dying flowers” е серия от монохромни скулптури от силикон. Те имат всякакви размери и различни цветове и погледнати заедно формират естетиката и света на Eilergerhard. Скулптурите й предизвикват мисли за лъскава глазура на торта и в същото време позите намекват за праисторически култови пластики, които сякаш танцуват върху пиедесталите си.

Art Felicia, a gallery in Lichstenstein, was presenting among other artists the work of German artist Anke Eilergerhard. Her work “The never dying flowers” is a series of monochrome sculptures from silicone. The sculptures in all sizes and different colours seen all together form the aesthetic of her artistic world. The figures evoke the thoughts of a glossy cake glazing and at the same time their form hints references to prehistoric cult sculptures as if they were dancing on their pedestals.

Regine Schumann
Regina Schumann е немски художник, представяна в пространството на Galerie Judith Andreae. Инсталациите й неизбежно грабват вниманието с ярки светлини и цветове. Тя комбинира различни материали, като пластмаса, флуоресцентни бои и т.н., за да се получи краен резултат, който създава интересна смесица от цветове и яркост, в зависимост от точката на наблюдатели.
Regina Schumann is German artist and was exhibited in the space of Galerie Judith Andreae. Her installations inevitably grab the attention with their bright lights and colors. She is combining different materials, like plastic, fluorescent paints etc. in order to get a final result that creates interesting mixture of colors and luminosity, depending of the observer’s point of view.
Willi Siber
Willi Siber в пространството на галерия Schmalfuss провокира голям интерес в множество преминаващи посетители. Неговата необикновена скулптура на усукани стоманени тръби в палитра от пастели до ярко синьо, жълто и розово определено приковават погледа. Изборът на работата му, която беше представена на пространството Schmallfuss бяха метални скулптури и картини с толкова неконвенционална техника, че също граничат със скулптура.

Willi Siber’s work presented at the gallery Schmalfuss space, seemed to provoke great interest in numerous passing visitors. His unordinary sculpture of twisted steel pipes in a palette from pastels to bright blue, yellow and pink monochromes definitely catches the wondering eye. The selection of his work that was presented at Schmallfuss’ space were the metal sculptures and also paintings with technique so unconventional that they could be classified as sculptures as well.
